"Discovering Milan: From Iconic Landmarks to Family Reunions"

Milan, a city synonymous with style, history, and cultural richness, welcomes travelers from around the globe with its allure. I’ve been wanting to go there since I studied fashion at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. It was always a must-visit and known as one of the fashion capitals of the world. My daughter (another fashionista) and I flew into Milan from the US. Join us on a journey through the enchanting streets of Milan as we explore its iconic landmarks and share the heartwarming tale of a family reunion with a wonderful Italian cousin we never knew before. But first stop- our hotel.

Best Accommodation in Milan: Hotel Dei Cavalieri Milano Duomo Hotel

When it comes to choosing accommodations, location and amenities are key. For our unforgettable mother-daughter trip to Italy, we wanted to stay right in the heart of Milan, with easy access to the city's attractions. That's why we decided on the Hotel Dei Cavalieri Milano Duomo Hotel. Located in a prime part of town, Hotel Dei Cavalieri Milano Duomo Hotel offers everything we were looking for and more. Situated near the iconic Duomo and surrounded by the best shopping, it's the perfect base for exploring Milan. Plus, with its fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant, boasting breathtaking views of the city, we knew we were in for a treat. But the perks didn't stop there. The rooms at Hotel Dei Cavalieri Milano Duomo Hotel were not only clean but also incredibly comfortable, providing us with a cozy retreat after a day of sightseeing. And the service? It was top-notch, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was nothing short of exceptional.

The Magnificent Duomo di Milano: Our adventure in Milan began with a visit to the awe-inspiring Duomo di Milano, the city's crown jewel. This Gothic masterpiece, adorned with spires and intricate sculptures, took our breath away as we stood in its majestic presence. Climbing to the rooftop offered panoramic views of the cityscape, a sight that left us spellbound.

Shopping Spree: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II: Adjacent to the Duomo, this elegant shopping arcade is one of the world's oldest and a testament to Milan's status as a fashion capital. Luxurious boutiques, charming cafes, and fine-dining restaurants line the arcade, providing a glamorous setting for shopping and people-watching. We didn’t waste any time find amazing stylist pieces for our wardrobe. I found an olive-green bomber jacket. My daughter found a colorful designer handbag and designer shoes.

We then strolled over to the Quadrilatero della Moda. Here, haute couture boutiques, designer showrooms, and luxury brands lined the streets, offering a glimpse into the city's high fashion splendor. From fashion enthusiasts to trendsetters, these 2 shopping districts epitomized Milan's flair for style and innovation.

Brera District: Brera is a bohemian neighborhood with narrow streets, art galleries, and a lively atmosphere. The Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery houses an impressive collection of Italian Renaissance art, making it a must-visit for art enthusiasts. We had a great time walking around, having a beer in a local pub. We also found fantastic vintage stores. My daughter bought a gorgeous gold designer choker that makes any outfit pop.

There are many incredible things to see and do in Milan. These are some recommendations to experience the history and culture of Milan.

Through my ancestry work, I found a beautiful Italian cousin that worked in Milan. We connected with her and made plans to meet. Besides being beautiful, she is very intelligent and speaks 5 languages!! She suggested we meet at Osteria Del Binari https://g.co/kgs/ifv7tmL at the Navigli district in Milan. The Navigli district is renowned for its picturesque canals and vibrant atmosphere, and it's a popular destination for both locals and visitors seeking a unique dining experience. Along the Naviglio Grande, you'll find a charming stretch of restaurants, cafes, and bars that locals frequent, especially in the evenings. You can enjoy the trendy shops and vibrant nightlife. This area is particularly lively during the warmer months when people gather to enjoy outdoor seating along the canal banks.

We walked from the hotel to the restaurant to meet my cousin and her husband. After a warm greeting and hugs, we walked through the indoor eating area to what looked like an enchanted forest. We were surrounded by shrubbery in a garden-like setting. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other and sharing laughter and stories of family. It was a meeting of hearts and cherished conversations that won’t be forgotten. Afterwards, we strolled around the Navigli district which truly came alive, providing the perfect backdrop for family moments and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

In the end, it's not just about the places we visited, but the shared moments, laughter, and the warmth of family that made our Milanese adventure truly special.

Grazie mille, cousin, for giving us a taste of Milan's magic!
